Dark brown leather travel case.
This set has been sold for € 450,-
Box (361x245x59mm) looks Western but is probably Chinese. Made of saddle leather. The interior, the 4 trays and the small box for counters et cetera are covered with faded green cloth.
Tiles (23x30x14mm) are Chinese. Made of dark yellow Bakelite or Catalin with a thin layer of black Celluloid(?) as back. The engraving is perfect. Western initials or numbers are lacking. There are 8 extra flower tiles and 4 spare tiles.
Counters are of bone with Chinese denomination.
Dice (4x) are made of bone with Chinese points. Their holder is a Cricket box.
Wind indicator is a bettor made of celluloid.
Instruction manual is printed by Perry & Co. 10th Edition March 1940.
N.B. This kind of Mah Jongg travel case seems to be typical for the (pre WWII) British and Dutch Indies.
